Next month a few of us are taking a working field trip to the cultural mecca, Hong Kong. I'm getting really excited thinking about visiting this unique city. We manufacture there and my brother has been our Asia guy. Braving all the extreme flights and language limitations over the years. He's made many friends and changed the face of what's possible as budding manufacturers. But this time we are taking a more creative approach and going for exploration of new kinds of craftsmanship and all the trades that are so famous, skilled and abundant in progressive China.
I wanted to pick your brains though and ask those of you who have been if you have any favorites or must see's. We'll be pretty busy while where there so we won't get to do all day events. But I'd love to know some spots we could drop in on and explore. I am most fascinated by old Hong Kong and it's history. Of course I'd love to find art hubbs, antique markets and I have a particular love and fascination with traditional Chinese Painting. But any favorites are welcome! xoxoxo...(Photo's Kelvin Wong, FromTheNorth, Beerboxerboy.)

Do you need an excutive secretary to travel with you????? I would love to visit Hong Kong and take in all the sights, sounds and smells.

YAY! Hong Kong is so beautiful! I lived there for a year about 4 years ago and have been back to visit once since as its so so incredible I cant keep away!
My top recommendations:
- Victoria Peak - The place where you get those amazing views of the city and the bay. Easy to get to in Central and you ride a tram to the top. Amazing!
- The Big Buddha - On Lantau Island, you can get a cable car there now with amazing views. The end of the ride has become very touristy but ignore that bit as the statue itself is amazing. and go to the monastery with its vegetarian restaurant, beautiful! Good photo opportunities there!
- Lamma Island - So worth the ferry trip, the most chilled out place I've ever been! Gorgeous beach and visit the Bookworm Cafe. Its a vegetarian cafe/second hand bookshop/internet cafe! A must see and my second home! :-)
- Hollywood Road and Soho have some amazing antique shops
- Mong Kok market is worth a visit but quite modern
- The star ferry, a ride across the bay is definately a great experience and costs hardly anything!
- Tai O - Amazing old fishing village practically all built on stilts
And thats all I can think of for now! It is such an amzing place, I really hope you enjoy it!

I visited Kowloon back in 1994 and loved it! It is so exciting! Take lots of pics of the FOOD in the windows! snake eggs and eels and bird nests. Surprisingly many natives speak English , not so surprisingly with a British accent! I love the whole street vendor rush. We were trying to buy cheap watches and had to keep running after the guy and his tray of knock off watches. AND the fabric stores! Yikes! Beauty! Have fun.

Anahata, i think you would love GOD (aka Goods of Desire) and Shanghai Tang, two retail stores I always try to visit when I am in HK. The best GOD to go to is in Causeway Bay, that one has the retail space along with a separate bookstore and a cafe. And the main outlet of Shanghai Tang is right next to the Central MTR station. Have fun! HK is great.

Hi Anahata,
I come from Hong Kong and think an absolute must visit is the jade market in Yau Ma Tei on Battery street. There are 400 stalls of jade jewellry and gems and beautiful artifacts and it is open from 10am to 5pm. I am from Hong Kong and yet I still feel like it is a huge chinese treasure whenever I go there. Hope you love the trip, I'm excited for you!
Blessings,
